Extended Break ending tonight!

So I have been on an extended break from working out for a few days. My leg is just not getting better. I am going to try again tonight after a week of nothing, we will see how this goes. Anyways another step has been taken on my goal of total self improvement. I broke down went to the eye docotor for the first time in my life and had my eyes checked. I need glasses... not all the time, but I need them nonetheless. Oh well I am getting older.

One other thing I wanted to write about and some may think I am crazy or may not believe in what I am about to say but to me it's pretty fucking cool.

Yesterday my wife told me about a dream she had where my Dad shows up and tells her that he is ok, everything is great and he is lucky. Not sure what that last part means, but it's good. I have stopped dreaming about my Dad and in a way i was kind of glad becasue I always saw him when he was sick from cancer. My wife told me in this dream that he seemed a lot younger than he was when she knew him, and that he looked healthy and happy. This is pretty normal after someone has passed, I am sure. Here is where it gets weird.

I went over to my Mom's house yesterday to get some of my Dad's old hunting stuff. When I got there, the door was locked but my Mom was home but upstairs. So I let myself in, she heard the door and got scared a little becasue I wasn't expected over. Anyways she starts telling me about the past two nights she heard some weird things. First it was a large bang in the house on the main floor in the middle of the night that was loud enough to wake her up. She went down and looked but nothing had fallen. Then the next evening about the same time of night she heard someone walking around on the main floor, again she was home alone and no one was there. This is the same night and approximate time that my wife had her dream about my dad.

Now my Mom used to hear things like this right after my Dad had passed and we had not buried his ashes. I know it sounds crazy to most, but I think it was my Dad checking up on us, letting us know he is still around in some way.

Thats my story. I think it's cool.

Husky runner goes to a Greek Wedding!

I went to my best friends wedding last weekend, I was the best man, but I really didn't have anything to do since I am not greek. It was a great time and I had waaaay to much to drink. Oh well. I have taken a week off basically of working out to repair myself and I am starting on my cardio again this week hardcore with biking to get my legs and lungs back to where they need to be again. I want to be entirely healthy leg-wise before I start running again. The only race I am planning on running next year is the Mill City suds run, so I have about a year to prepare for it. My goal is to finish around 30 minutes, maybe even better than that. Also, hopefully with the biking the weight will start to melt away, I am still stuck on the same weight for the past few weeks. I also need to change my eating and drinking habits again to be where I want to be. Oh well, time to get serious once again...Starting today, now in fact. Oh yeah!

My second race... (A few days ago)

Well I did it, I finished my second race, even though it was a few days ago, I just have not had a chance to blog about it. It was super emotional and a lot of fun. I didn't realize how I would react when I finished the race. But a lot of emotions came out, I have trained harder for this than anything in my life. It was always something I said I was never going to do... Why the hell would someone need or want to run more than a few miles if they are not being chased by an axe weilding crazy person. Well I figured it out, the sense of accomplishment is like nothing else. Even though I didn't feel great physically after I finished, I felt awesome mentally. ( I was actually sick the rest of the day after the race.)

I am going to take break from races until next summer, I plan on doing the Mill City Suds run again, and possibly one of the cancer runs, but I have the next few months to get my leg healthy again and then really hit the pavement and the treadmill depending on the weather. My goal is 5 miles every other day running and another 10 to 15 on the non running days on the bike. I still have my personal weightloss goal of 90 lbs, I know that is a lot, and it will take a while, but I am going to do it. No matter how long it takes. I want to get a large t shirt again...

Hey again!

Well a lot has happened since the last time I wrote anything. Sorry for the wait. Since my last post, I have run farther than I have ever run in my life at one time. I went 4 miles the other day in just over 45 minutes. I am not sure what it was, but I was in a "zone" I probably could have run more, but I had some ribs cooking on the grill and I figured that I had to check on them and get the rest of dinner going before Amanda and Nicki got home. It was great! Then I went running today and it was a totally different experience, I was planning on taking it easy today for my race on Saturday, but I was tight and it was hot when i was running and I could not get my pace right, so I was too fast or too slow and my dog kept stopping which was really annoying today. Oh well, I still went running and got a workout so that is what matters, right?

I am also still recovering from last weekend, had a good weekend, Golf ( which I shot the best I have in a long time ) I finished in the mid 80's, and for only the second round of the summer I think that is pretty good. I think I could do a lot better if I had some touch around the greens, chipping and putting, otherwise I felt good out there. There was also a little party later that evening. Before the party I had the best meal I think I have ever eaten in my life at Manny's

Anyways, it has been a good week so far and I look forward to what the rest of this month brings. I will keep you posted!

Tough week...

I had this really great idea for a blog article about my Dad, but this seemed like it was a better idea. It would have been his birthday last Sunday, so we went to bring some flowers to his gravesite and I got some good pics of my daughter there. These pics tell the whole story. If you don't know my Dad passed a few years back after a short battle with cancer, (cancer sucks ass BTW). But to sum it up, he is still around, he makes his presence known, and this is one way he did it. My daughter just went right to his headstone without ever knowing which one it was, sat down on it and looked at me, smiled and did not want to get off the headstone right away. It was awesome.

I miss my Dad... a lot. But this helped me.

Husky Runner runs around a lake!

Last night I actually ran around a lake. Since I started running, that was one of my biggest fears, running around one of the Minneapolis lakes and not looking or feeling like a complete idiot. Well... I did it! I actually did a lot better than I thought I would do too. It helped I had someone telling me to keep going, and even giving me a challenge at the end of the run. It was awesome. I felt like I was going to throw up when I finished and my throat was burning from being so dry, but I was able to make it around with minimal slowing. This has been one of my best and most productive weeks running since I started in Feb of this year. I have started losing more weight again... FINALLY. My goal is by Christmas to lose another 15 to 20 lbs. Which is totally achievable, I think.

This week the state fair also begins, and since I am going on Sunday, I have been watching what I am eating this week. I have attempted to eat less than 2000 calories each day this week so I am able to eat a little more on Sunday. I really only need to have a few things when I am there, cheese curds, deep fried pepperocinis. Those are two must haves then after that, whatever I see that looks good. Which I am sure is going to be a lot of stuff.

Finally, my wife has been reading a blog called crappy pictures blog, she loves it. It is pretty funny, but I have a feeling that if she wanted to she could have a lot better material and have a lot more humor than that blogger. Since we have a fricken zoo here and a small child, we are constantly dealing with ridiculous situations.

Anyways I am looking forward to running around more lakes and losing more weight and inches. I will keep yoy posted!

Biking today and Yankee lessons

Well today I did a little biking, I went 7 miles in about 20 minutes. Monday, I plan on running outside again after work. Should be fun though, I feel like my stamina has been getting better the past few days even from what it was. I am pushing myself a little harder lately in my workouts since my leg finally is better, so unless there is a change in it, I will stop talking about it. :)

I went to the Thursday night edition of how to slowly destroy a basball managers career, which is also known as the Yankees vs. Twins. Apparently Ron Gardenhire can not and will not ever figure out how to consistently beat the Yankees. For me though, it was the second time in my life I have ever seen the yankees play. The first timeI was like 8 years old and Don Mattingly was the star of the Yankees, this time I got to see Jeter, Cano, A-Rod for a moment (not playing), and for my wife's benefit Jim Thome of the Twins, all will be legendary but not all for the same reason. Regardless of what you may think of the Yankees and specifically A-Rod, yes he admitted he cheated, I get it, I know why people would boo him, but the others I mentioned, are going to be legendary players. Jeter already is and Cano, he will be if he stays with the Yankees. Thome, he is becasue of 600. ( I know, he isn't a Yankee, but who cares)

As a person who loves to watch shows about the history baseball, seeing the Yankees as a team is one of the ultimate things to do. Same as going to Wrigley, Fenway and the Dome.... well maybe not the dome. Hell I even thought it was cool seeing the Astrodome a few years ago while I was in Houston at a dog show right next door to it. so for those of you who don't understand what I am getting at... My name is Nick and I am a baseball geek.

I guess you can consider it like this, many people in MN hate the Yankees, for whatever reason they want, just like so many hate the Packers, but if you were offered tix to the vikes and packers at Lambeau, most would probably want to go, Why? becasue it is a legendary place, and you are probably watching one of the ( I hate to say it) better teams in the NFL.

Sorry about my rant.
